Radiation exposure in pediatric dentistry: Current standards in pedodontic radiology with suggestions for alternatives

چکیده
Introduction The most frequent radiographic examination for children is a dental radiographic examination. During the years from 1961 to 1970, there was a 34% increase in the number of dental radiographic visits for children (Table 1). During this same interval, there has been decline in the average number of films exposed per visit. The trend, therefore, is for increasing numbers of children to be radiographed while visiting the dentist, but with fewer films per examination; the causes for this pattern are not clear. In large part, however, it may be accounted for by increasing numbers of children visiting the dentist.

Future directions in graduate pedodontic education.
Dental manpower is the subject of much discussion at local, state, and national levels. For the past few years I have been interested in this situation and want to present the information I have accumulated as well as offer some suggestions for the future. This paper will explain the present situation in pedodontics, summarize what the experts say about population projections, dental and pedodo...
متن کاملDose Reduction to the Thyroid Gland in Pediatric Chest Radiography
Background It is remain a main concern that pediatric chest radiographies contribute to the significant radiation exposure to the thyroid gland as a more susceptible organ to radiation induced cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the entrance surface dose (ESD) of pediatric chest radiography compared to the diagnostic reference levels (DRL) and evaluation the efficacy of the lead (Pb)...

This study consists of a survey of United States pedodontic postdoctoral education programs. Based on that survey, suggestions for providing a less stressful experience for the hospitalized child are presented. Particular emphasis is placed on normalizing the events of hospitalization and on attempting to parallel the normal home environment of the child as closely as possible. Potential negati...
متن کاملOptimization of Radiological Protection in Pediatric Patients Undergoing Common Conventional Radiological Procedures: Effectiveness of Increasing the Film to Focus Distance (FFD)
Background Increasing the x-ray film to focus distance (FFD), has been recommended as a practical dose optimization tool for patients undergoing conventional radiological procedures. In the previous study, we demonstrated a 32% reduction in absorbed dose is achievable due to increasing the FFD from 100 to 130 cm during pediatric chest radiography. The aim of this study was to examine whether in...

Introduction Blue light is a part of the spectrum with the highest energy content, which can reach the retina. The damage that it can cause to the retina is called photochemical or blue-light retinal injury. For the retinal injury assessment of the photochemical and aphakic retinal hazards in the wavelength range of 300-700 nm, use of effective spectral radiance limits (W.m-2.sr-1) seems to be...
